The Burden of Feeling: Embracing Empathy in a World of Overwhelm

In a world that often feels heavy and overflowing with emotions, I find myself submerged in the depth of what it means to truly feel. It's a journey that can be as excruciating as it is beautiful, as draining as it is enlightening. As I navigate through my days, emotions pulse through my veins like a river, carrying the weight of the world along its currents.

The Echoes of Others

At times, this sensitivity allows me to connect deeply with the stories and struggles of others. I think of the father I read about, who experienced the unspeakable tragedy of losing his family in a devastating accident—a scene he discovered through the relentless gaze of social media. The helplessness of his situation resonates with me, a stark reminder of how quickly fate can alter the course of our lives.

The Strength of Sacrifice

I also feel the silent strength of a mother, who after enduring the labor of childbirth, must summon even more courage to heal her own body while putting her newborn’s needs first. Her sacrifice is a testament to the fierce, often unspoken love that defines parenthood. It’s a type of emotional resilience that is as daunting as it is awe-inspiring.

Moments of Reflection

In quieter moments, I find myself reflecting on my own vulnerabilities and the roles I play. Like many, I question my purpose and the impact I can have in this vast, ever-changing world. It’s a contemplation shared by many who navigate the complexities of modern life, seeking clarity amid chaos.

Beyond the Immediate

The empathy I feel extends beyond human stories. It reaches the existential angst of considering one's own mortality, the stark inequalities that divide our society, and the environmental challenges that loom over us. Sometimes, I imagine a different end for myself—not buried, but cremated, perhaps as a way to lighten the physical burden I'll leave behind.

Finding Joy Amidst the Pain

Yet, it is not all sorrow and gloom. This capacity to feel deeply also brings with it a profound appreciation for the small beauties of life—the warmth of the sun on my skin, the laughter of children at play, the comforting presence of friends and family. It compels me to advocate for those who suffer in silence, to fight for justice in my own ways, and to cherish the fleeting moments of joy that punctuate our existence.

A Blessing and a Curse

For those like me, who feel too much, the world can seem both a blessing and a curse. We absorb the pain and joy of others as if it were our own, and though it can be overwhelming, this empathy is also what connects us to the human spirit. It drives us to care, to act, and to love more deeply.

Navigating Emotional Seas

The journey of feeling too much is not about finding a way to become less sensitive, but rather learning how to navigate the vast seas of emotion without losing ourselves. It’s about finding balance, seeking peace, and fostering the kind of understanding that can truly make a difference.

A Call to Embrace Empathy

As we continue to face the complexities of life, let us not shy away from our ability to feel deeply. Instead, let us embrace it as a source of strength and a beacon of hope in a world that needs more compassion. For in feeling too much, perhaps, we can find the motivation to change too much, for the better.

Embracing the Reset: Nurturing Mental Well-being through Reflection

As I embarked on a journey to de-clutter my phone, I stumbled upon a profound realization about life's need for a reset.

Life often mirrors the journey of our smartphones—starting fresh with excitement and potential, only to become bogged down over time with excess data and clutter. Just as I recently decided to clear out my phone to optimize its performance, I realized how essential it is to apply the same principles to our lives.

The Art of De-cluttering: Reflecting on Life's Experiences

Life is a continuous journey of growth and accumulation. We gather experiences, responsibilities, and memories as we navigate the world around us. However, this accumulation can become burdensome over time, leading to mental fatigue and a sense of overwhelm.

Similar to de-cluttering a phone's storage, we must take the time to review and evaluate our life's contents. Identify the aspects that bring value and joy, and let go of those that no longer serve us. This could mean releasing negative thought patterns, simplifying commitments, or reevaluating priorities.

Resetting for Renewal: Embracing Change and Rest

The process of resetting a phone brings it back to its original state, ready to function efficiently once again. Similarly, embracing a reset in our lives allows us to shed unnecessary baggage and create space for renewal.

Take time to rest and recharge, allowing yourself moments of stillness and introspection. Disconnect from the constant busyness and embrace solitude. Engage in activities that replenish your spirit—whether it's reading, spending time in nature, or practicing mindfulness.

Starting Anew: Cultivating Self-Care and Mindful Living

After a reset, a phone operates more smoothly and efficiently. Similarly, after resetting our lives, we have the opportunity to cultivate habits that support our well-being.

Prioritize self-care by nurturing your physical, emotional, and mental health. Establish healthy boundaries and learn to say no when necessary. Practice gratitude and mindfulness to appreciate the present moment.

Embracing the Journey: Cultivating Growth and Resilience

Life is a continuous journey of growth and self-discovery. Embrace the challenges and setbacks as opportunities for learning and growth. Build resilience by adapting to change and developing a positive mindset.

Remember, hitting the reset button in life is not a sign of weakness but a courageous act of self-care. Allow yourself the space to de-clutter, reset, and nurture your mental well-being. Just as my phone operates more efficiently after a reset, may you too find renewed energy and clarity as you embark on this journey of self-discovery and renewal.

  • "De-cluttering my phone was a metaphor for de-cluttering my life—a reminder that less is often more."
  • "Embrace the reset button in life—it's a courageous act of self-care and renewal."
  • "Just like a phone operating smoothly after a reset, may your life find clarity and purpose after de-cluttering."

Let's embrace the reset together, cultivating a life filled with purpose, joy, and resilience. Here's to de-cluttering our minds, nurturing our souls, and embracing the beauty of life's ever-evolving journey.

Embrace change as an opportunity for growth and learning, and allow yourself to evolve and adapt gracefully through life's transitions.

Branches of Connection: Building Community

Connection to others is vital for mental well-being. Engage in meaningful interactions with peers and mentors, sharing experiences and wisdom. Don't hesitate to seek support from mental health professionals if needed—let's break the stigma around mental health together!

Embracing Growth and Hope

Navigating the Storm: Insights from a Reader's Mental Health Journey

As the clock struck half past six in the evening, the skies above Nairobi unleashed a furious downpour, typical of the city's rainy season. Streets quickly turned into rivers, and everyone, from office workers to street vendors, scrambled for shelter. I found refuge under the awning of a petrol station, alongside a colorful crowd also waiting for the rain to subside.

Standing there, the noise of the city seemed amplified by the rain—matatus honking incessantly, touts shouting "Gari ya Rongai! Gari ya Rongai!" trying to fill their vans with passengers eager to escape the deluge. It was in this chaos, a backdrop for reflection, that the real state of my mental health came into sharp focus.

For weeks, my emotions had mirrored Nairobi’s weather: unpredictable and often stormy. The relentless rain drumming on the metal roof echoed the turmoil inside me, making it impossible to ignore any longer. I realized how much I had been operating on autopilot, moving through my days with the mechanical motions of a matatu navigating its set route but going nowhere emotionally fulfilling.

The realization hit me as I watched a young mother, her baby tied securely on her back with a lesso, negotiating a seat in a matatu. Despite the chaos, she was determined, focused. It made me think about my own journey—how I'd been merely reacting to life's downpours instead of moving forward with intention.

As I stood there, soaked yet introspective, I decided to take control of my mental health journey. This wasn't just about waiting for the storm to pass anymore; it was about learning to dance in the rain, metaphorically speaking.

I started by acknowledging the thoughts that flooded my mind every time I stood waiting for a matatu. Was it merely the inconvenience of the rain, or was there more to my dread of these moments? My thoughts often spiraled from mundane worries about the weather to deeper fears about my life's direction, much like the unpredictable paths of Nairobi's rushing waters.

Determined to shift from passive to proactive, I began by reaching out for support. I talked to friends—those casual yet deep conversations that often start with "Mambo vipi, bro?" but lead into the kind of heart-to-hearts that lighten your soul.

Slowly, I incorporated more structure into my days, akin to the scheduled routes of the city's matatus but tailored to foster my mental well-being. I started with small, manageable changes—morning walks at Uhuru Park, journaling my thoughts and fears, and gradually reducing the clutter that clouded my mind and living space.

The journey was not smooth. Just like the city’s matatus, there were stops, starts, and unexpected detours. But every step forward was a piece of the puzzle fitting into place, helping me navigate through my internal storms with newfound resilience.

Looking back at that stormy evening under the petrol station awning, I see it as the moment my life took a new route. It was not just about escaping the rain but embracing the journey, however tumultuous it might be.

To anyone else feeling stuck in their storm, remember that sometimes, the path to clarity begins with a simple step forward, even if it's under the shelter of a simple kibanda. Like the city of Nairobi, life is chaotic, vibrant, and unpredictable, but always full of potential for renewal.

As I finally boarded my matatu, the rain had lessened, and the roads were clearing. The physical storm had passed, and so too would my mental storms, with patience, support, and relentless hope.

Setting Relationship Boundaries

Ah, relationships – the delicate dance of give and take, love and respect. But how do we navigate this intricate landscape while honoring our own needs and boundaries?

With Partners

Setting boundaries with your partner is essential for maintaining a healthy relationship. One tip is to resist reactivity. Set the tone for the conversation by staying calm and composed, even when discussing difficult topics. Choose a calm, relaxed time to discuss your boundaries.

Another tip is to avoid using "you" statements, which can come across as accusatory and put your partner on the defensive. Instead, try using "I" statements to express your feelings and needs without placing blame.

And finally, be fully present with your partner. Put down the phone, turn off the TV, and give them your full attention. It shows that you value their feelings and opinions.

With Parents

Navigating boundaries with parents as an adult can be like walking a tightrope between love and independence. It's important to speak up for yourself respectfully and authentically. Address the issue directly, acknowledging the importance of family while expressing your need for autonomy and balance.

With Friends

Setting boundaries in friendships is crucial for maintaining mutual respect. Communicate calmly and directly about your needs without ghosting or gossiping. Be open to addressing issues and finding solutions that work for both parties.

At Work

Setting boundaries at work is vital for preventing burnout and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Establish clear work hours, know who to reach out to for support, and avoid gossiping about workplace issues.

Boundary Exercises: Practicing Self-Expression

  • Using "I" Statements: Express your feelings and needs assertively without blaming others.
  • When Feeling Disrespected: Communicate assertively while maintaining professionalism.
  • Buying Yourself Time: Politely ask for time to consider requests.
  • Saying "No" with Explanation: Politely decline requests while offering a brief explanation.

Remember, setting boundaries is a journey of growth and self-discovery. Embrace stumbles, trust in your ability to set boundaries, and prioritize your well-being. You deserve safety, respect, and empowerment. Stay tuned for more boundary bliss in upcoming chapters.

Goal-Setting: What's Your Why?

First things first, let's talk about goals. Why do you want to set boundaries? What are you hoping to achieve? Perhaps you're tired of feeling overwhelmed and drained by constantly saying yes to everyone else's demands. I am... Or maybe you're seeking to cultivate healthier, more fulfilling relationships built on mutual respect and understanding. Whatever your reasons, clarifying your goals will provide you with a roadmap for your boundary-setting journey.

Start Small, Dream Big

Setting boundaries can feel intimidating, especially if you're accustomed to putting others' needs before your own. But remember, Rome wasn't built in a day! Start small by focusing on one boundary at a time. Maybe it's saying no to that extra project at work that's been piling up on your desk. Or perhaps it's setting aside uninterrupted "me time" each day to recharge and nurture yourself. By taking baby steps and celebrating each small victory along the way, you'll gradually build confidence in your ability to assert your boundaries effectively.

Clarity is Key

When it comes to setting boundaries, clarity is your best friend. Be crystal clear about what you want and need from yourself and others. Instead of beating around the bush or dropping hints, express your boundaries directly and assertively. For example, instead of saying, "I guess I could help out with that," try saying, "I appreciate you thinking of me, but I'm unable to take on any additional tasks at the moment."

Practice Makes Progress

Feeling nervous about setting boundaries? You're not alone! Many people find it helpful to practice stating their boundaries beforehand. Grab a pen and paper, and jot down what you want to say. Then, rehearse your boundary-setting script in front of the mirror until you feel comfortable and confident. Remember, practice makes progress, not perfection.

Keep It Simple, Sweetheart

When it comes to setting boundaries, simplicity is key. Avoid overwhelming yourself or others with too much information or unnecessary details. Instead, focus on the main issue that's bothering you and communicate your boundary clearly and succinctly. For example, if you're feeling overwhelmed by social commitments, you might say, "I've been feeling stretched thin lately, so I need to scale back on social activities for a while."

Benefits of Setting Boundaries

1. Avoiding Burnout

Doing too much for too many people can lead to burnout. Setting boundaries helps you prioritize your time and energy, preventing you from spreading yourself too thin and experiencing exhaustion.

I often find myself saying yes to everything and then feeling completely drained and exhausted. Have you?

This is a common experience for most of us I believe, but I am learning that setting boundaries can help prevent that burnout. By clearly defining what I am able to do and what I need to prioritize, I can ensure that I am not spreading myself too thin. It's like giving myself permission to prioritize my own well-being.

Somedays am so good at doing this and some days am so bad at it overwhelmed by the need to please those around me. This is why I am calling this my boundary bliss journey, since it a step by step process not a one-day fix.

2. Less Resentment

And speaking of well-being, setting boundaries can also reduce resentment. Have you ever felt resentful because you were constantly giving to others without taking care of yourself?

Oh, I definitely have.

It's hard not to feel resentful when you're always putting others' needs ahead of your own.

When you constantly put others' needs ahead of your own, resentment can start to build. Setting boundaries allows you to assert your needs and preferences, reducing or even eliminating feelings of resentment. It's all about finding that balance between giving and receiving….

3. More Balance

Boundaries aren't just about setting limits with others; they're also about setting boundaries with yourself. For example, staying up too late on work nights can lead to exhaustion and imbalance. By setting a boundary to go to bed earlier, we can restore that balance and prioritize our health and well-being. I love that idea of setting boundaries with ourselves. It's like giving ourselves permission to prioritize self-care. Self-care is so important, and setting boundaries is a big part of that

Closing Thoughts

Setting healthy boundaries is an act of self-love and self-respect. By clearly defining your limits and honoring your needs, you're taking an important step toward creating a life that aligns with your values and priorities. Remember, you deserve to feel safe, respected, and empowered in all of your relationships. So, go ahead, embrace your inner boundary-setter, and watch as your life transforms for the better. You've got this!

Setting boundaries isn't just about drawing lines in the sand or putting up walls. It's about creating balance, preserving your well-being, and fostering healthy relationships. So, let's take a closer look at the benefits of setting boundaries and some practical tips for implementing them in various aspects of your life.

Stay tuned for our upcoming discussions on setting boundaries in relationships, navigating boundaries in the workplace, practicing self-care through boundary-setting, and so much more. Together, we'll unlock the secrets to living a fearlessly authentic life.

Boundary Bliss: Your Guide to Living Authentically

Hey there, it’s been a minute! It’s another moment where I ask you to pull up a chair, grab your favorite beverage, and let's have a heart-to-heart about something that's often overlooked but oh-so-important: boundaries!

Picture this: You're navigating the chaotic waters of life or what most of us call adulting; juggling work deadlines, family obligations, social commitments, and personal goals, all while still striving to keep your head above water. Sound familiar? Trust me, story of my life too. But here's the thing – amidst the chaos of life, setting boundaries can be your saving grace.

Now, before you roll your eyes and dismiss boundaries as just another buzzword, hear me out. Think of boundaries as your personal guidebook to navigating life's rollercoaster ride. They're not about building walls; they're about creating a roadmap that honors your needs, values, and well-being.

So, let's dive into the wonderful world of boundaries, shall we?

What Are Boundaries, anyway?

Boundaries, you say? Isn't that just about setting limits and saying no? I bet this is what you asked yourself the moment you came across this.

Ah, but boundaries are so much more than that, my friend. They're the secret sauce to balance, productivity, and well-being. Think of boundaries as your personal guidebook, leading you towards a life filled with joy, purpose, and meaning.

You can also look at them like the guardrails on a highway, guiding you safely along your journey. They're the lines you draw to define your personal space, time, and energy. Boundaries come in all shapes and sizes, from saying no to excessive work demands to carving out "me time" amidst a hectic schedule.

Why Do Boundaries Matter?

Ah, the million-dollar question. Boundaries matter because they're the cornerstone of a balanced, fulfilling life. Without them, you risk burnout, resentment, and losing sight of what truly matters to you. Boundaries empower you to protect your mental health, nurture meaningful relationships, and pursue your passions with gusto.

But how do I even begin to set boundaries?

Excellent question! Now, let's talk about the nitty-gritty. Boundaries can be categorized as either hard or soft. Hard boundaries are your non-negotiables – the lines you refuse to cross. Think of them as your personal fortress, safeguarding your core values and well-being. Soft boundaries, on the other hand, are more like flexible guidelines. They're the areas where you're willing to bend, adapt, and compromise.

Just like guardrails on the highway of life we said earlier. They're the lines you draw to define your personal space, time, and energy.

Setting Boundaries: A personal experiment and embracing the journey

Now that you have understood what boundaries are and the different categories.

It is now time to roll up our sleeves and get down to business. Setting boundaries is a bit like conducting a science experiment – you try, you learn, you adjust. Start by identifying your top priorities in life. What truly lights you up? What drains your energy? Once you've got that figured out, it's time to put your boundaries to the test.

Choose one hard boundary to implement in your daily life. Maybe it's setting aside uninterrupted "me time" every evening or saying no to commitments that don't align with your values. See how it feels. Notice the impact it has on your stress levels, productivity, and overall well-being.

But here's the kicker – setting boundaries isn't just about saying "no" to things that don't serve you. It's also about saying a big, resounding "yes" to yourself and your well-being. So, let's roll up our sleeves and dive into the nitty-gritty of boundary setting, shall we?

But before we do it, here's the beauty of it all: boundaries aren't set in stone. They're more like living, breathing entities that evolve and adapt with you. So don't be afraid to tweak them, adjust them, and fine-tune them along the way.

But what if setting boundaries feels selfish? You may be asking yourself

Ah, the age-old misconception. Setting boundaries isn't selfish – it's an act of self-love. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. By honoring your own needs, you're actually better equipped to show up fully for others. Does that make sense?

So please go ahead, honor your needs, protect your energy, and reclaim your power. You've got this, my friend. Your journey to boundary bliss starts now.

How do we communicate our boundaries effectively to others?

Communication is key! Start by reflecting on your needs and struggles. Then, kindly and assertively communicate your boundaries to those around you. Remember, your needs are valid, and it's okay to advocate for yourself.

What if my boundaries are crossed?

Ah, the inevitable bumps in the road. If your boundaries are crossed, don't be afraid to have follow-up conversations. Remember, protecting your mental health and well-being is essential.

Your Boundaries, Your Life

As we wrap up our little chat about boundaries, remember this: your boundaries are your superpower. They're the secret sauce to living a life that's authentically yours or as I personally put it living fearlessly authentic – filled with joy, purpose, and meaning. So, lets dare to set boundaries that honor our needs, empower our growth, and unleash our full potential.

Here's to embracing the beauty and bliss of setting and embracing our boundaries and unlocking our best life. We’ve got this! Our best life awaits!

Until next time, XOXO

Yours Sincerely,

Unveiling Authenticity: The Journey of Embracing Your True Self

We've all grappled with the weight of judgment, constantly wondering if our actions or words will be
deemed likeable or acceptable by friends, family, or even strangers. It's a tangle of "what ifs" Will they appreciate us more or less? Are we good enough for the life we seek? Will we fit into the desired mold?
These thoughts often shepherd us into hiding our true selves, conforming to the norms around us. But is
this suppression of our genuine nature worth it? Is there a need to dilute our uniqueness for the sake of acceptance?
I stumbled upon a shirt bearing the phrase "Authenticity is Everything"; during a casual shopping spree.
The message resonated deeply within me as I embarked on a journey toward fearlessly embracing my
authentic self. The excitement of owning the shirt and sharing the values of authenticity soon dimmed
when I thought of adorning it. "Will it suit the office environment? What would my colleagues think?
Will they question my commitment or my personality? Perhaps I should wear this elsewhere." These
endless doubts and inner dialogue held me back, stashing away a cherished shirt, confining this powerful
message to my drawer, donning it merely thrice in two years due to the fear of others opinions.
Reflecting on this, I realized how often we compromise our authenticity for the sake of external
opinions, burying our genuine essence under layers of worry. But should the unique self within be
confined or suppressed? Authenticity is about being real, being YOU—the individual reading this.
Fearless authenticity doesn’t denote an absence of fear; it’s about mastering that fear and living true to
our inner values regardless of external expectations. This was the essence of the message on my shirt:
"Authenticity is everything."
So, how can we nurture and embrace authenticity?
It starts with focusing on what truly brings us joy, ignites our passion, and brings a smile to our face.
Shedding the self-limiting beliefs about our capabilities and embracing the yearning to express ourselves
authentically.
Accepting ourselves for who we are and silencing the fear of external opinions lets us attract the right
people into our lives—those who resonate with our true self. Learning from others is invaluable, yet avoiding the trap of comparison is crucial. Taking breaks from social media or silencing negativity helps protect our authentic voice.

Authentic living isn’t about major upheavals but tiny tweaks that align our actions with our true selves.
Speaking the truth with compassion, humility, and honesty often requires no words at all. Authenticity
isn’t forced; it's a natural, free-flowing state nurtured by listening to our heart’s whispers and discerning between our core truth and the noise of anxiety.

Authenticity flourishes when the soul's light pierces through the confinements of the mind. Pursuing fearless authenticity centers our attention on what aligns with our truth, enabling us to live our best lives

Recharge and Reconnect: The Importance of Taking a Mental Health Day

Hey you!
Recently have you had those days when you wake up and the first thought is, “I just can’t do this today.’’? You are not alone, like you, most of us have had those days. The majority of the time, you shake it off, get up, get ready, and get on with your day. However, there are those days when you literally feel like you just can’t get out of bed because you feel overwhelmed, anxious, unmotivated, and burned out.
I think it’s that time of the month, week, or day for you to have that mental health day!
You know how it goes, right? Work, being the perfect spouse or parent and the need to be constantly being connected and available …. these things in our lives do take a toll on us and most of the time, we barely recognize the impact they can have on both our mental and physical health. Especially, if we are not paying enough attention to ourselves.
We have come a long way, haven't we? Now that we are past the awkwardness of talking about mental health and realizing that its as important as our physical health and we need to take good care of it.
So, what exactly do I mean by a mental health day?
This is the day to intentionally take care of your emotional and physical needs and take a break from life’s stressors. Think of stress as something contained in a bucket and when the bucket is too full, it needs to be drained off. Therefore, when stress is too much, we need to consciously make an effort to drain some of it or otherwise it will result in some undesired consequences.
A mental health day is meant for you to engage in activities that are meaningful and aimed at draining your stress bucket instead of filling it further. In other words, maintaining an equilibrium in our lives. Emotions are part of us as we experience them throughout our lives and during the day. It is vital to acknowledge all of our emotions as they all serve a purpose in our lives. Unfortunately, we experience certain emotions that are challenging to balance. These emotions occur too often or too intensely to us. Failure to drain our stress bucket results in us having unbalanced emotions.
Now you are wondering whether you should have that mental health day. Right?
When and how should you have it...is another question you might be asking yourself. I am
Great, we are on the right track with our mental health. Hurray!
First things first, before taking that mental health day we need to have a plan for it ahead of time. Unless you are feeling too overwhelmed and feel you can’t deal with another life stressor at this particular moment, this is the best time for you to take that mental health day and make the most of it.
This is totally up to you as to when you want to have a mental health day and your current personal situation.
Once you have a planned day set out. It is now time for you to make the most of this day.
Take time out and relax!
I mean, it’s your day, right? This can be either watching your favorite TV series in cozy pajamas for hours or actually nothing in the house. Take a nature walk or a walk around your neighborhood
Go to the spa and have your self-pampered
Enjoy a relaxing bath
Read a good book
Sleep for another extra hours
Indulge in a hobby you love
Hang out with a friend
Move with the wind and let the day decide for you

The Power of Normalizing Mental Health Conversations

Imagine you’re in a room full of people, and the question pops up – "What is mental health?" Suddenly, the room is abuzz with curious minds conjuring up definitions. "It's a disease of the brain," someone ventures cautiously. Another chimes in, "Oh, it's those folks on the street, right? The ones talking to themselves?" And then comes the kicker, "Mental health? That's when someone goes completely bonkers!"

Hold up. Before you chuckle or shake your head, think about this – can we blame them? In a world where mental health discussions often hide in the shadows, these answers aren't far-fetched. But guess what? We're flipping the script. Fasten your seatbelts, because we're diving deep into what mental health truly means as well as take a thrilling journey into the heart of normalizing mental health conversations.

So, what truly constitutes mental health? It's a question that often sparks diverse responses, some intriguing, and others concerning

Pause for a moment and reflect on your perception of mental health. Is it a mere ailment of the mind? A portrayal of disheveled souls on the streets? The reality is, these notions fall short of the truth. Mental health, as the World Health Organization puts it, is the bedrock of your decision-making mojo, your relationship wizardry, and your life-sculpting prowess.

Picture mental health as your mind's best friend – the champion of your emotional well-being. It's your secret weapon to conquer life's curveballs, to harness your abilities, and to build connections that light up your world. Surprising, right? It's not just about mind-boggling illnesses or street-side spectacles. It's a pivotal aspect of our holistic health that should be discussed openly and earnestly.

Now, hold onto that thought and ponder this: why do mental health conversations often tiptoe around our lives? When was the last time you engaged in a candid conversation about mental health? Can't remember, right? You're not alone. It's like this elusive topic we all know exists but never quite brings into the spotlight. It's like this unspeakable secret we stash in the attic. Well, it's time to throw open the windows and let the fresh air of conversation breeze in.

Our society, unfortunately, tends to veil mental health discussions in secrecy. We relegate these conversations to the shadows, avoiding the discomfort they might bring. Yet, the consequence is a lack of understanding that perpetuates the stigma. Can we truly blame anyone for their misconceptions? Absolutely not.

But imagine a world where mental health conversations are embraced, where the weight of our emotional struggles is shared openly. We've all faced days when we plaster on a smile while turmoil churns within. Juggling responsibilities while yearning for respite becomes the norm. We stifle our cries for help until they explode, and when it does, oh boy, it's not pretty. It leaves us shattered and hurting those we cherish.

But what if, just what if, we could change that? What if instead of bottling up our thoughts like emotional soda pop, we could just, well, talk?

Envision a society where we communicate our challenges without fear. A million thoughts swirl within our minds daily. It's time to talk, to let others in. Why converse solely with ourselves when sharing with loved ones can alleviate our burdens? Let's swap the facade for authenticity, ditch the mask in favor of connection.

Picture this: you're sipping your morning brew, and a friend drops by. "Hey, how's your mental health today?" No awkward shuffling, no hidden glances. Just a conversation, like you're discussing yesterday's game or the latest celebrities’ gossip. It's time to toss the shame, to shed the skin of stigma, and step into the light of understanding.

A holistic approach to well-being integrates mind and body. One can't flourish without the other. By advocating for "whole health," we shatter the false divide between mental and physical well-being. your mental health isn't a lone ranger. It's BFFs with your physical health. Remember the old saying "mind over matter"? Turns out, they're a package deal. You can't have one without the other. So, let's trash the notion that mental health is a side quest. It's the main storyline, folks.

Picture a world where mental health is regarded with the same urgency as physical health. By altering our perceptions, we chip away at the barriers that inhibit conversations. It begins with you, with me, with us. Embrace the transformation, let's normalize discussions about mental health.Let's rewrite the script, shift the narrative, and dance to the tune of openness. Let's talk about mental health like we talk about our favorite Netflix show – with enthusiasm, with curiosity, and with unbridled passion.

Are you ready to be a catalyst for change? Start by openly sharing your thoughts. Engage in direct conversations when you sense a loved one needs help. Choose your words carefully, avoiding negative labels. Educate yourself and those around you, fostering understanding. Be an advocate for mental health – because it's okay not to be okay.

Imagine a world where mental health isn't whispered but spoken of in the same breath as physical health. Let's create that reality. Let's talk about mental health. Let's break the silence together.

I AM ENOUGH

Affirmation to myself ‘’ I AM ENOUGH’’

We’ve all have heard it, believed it and acted on it…Yes, we have! If you are wondering what it is, it’s that little voice or screaming voice saying, ’I am not good enough’’.
Being fearlessly authentic starts with us truly owning and believing. ’I am enough’’

Our brains every now and then tend to remind us …. I am not enough! I haven’t achieved success;

I haven’t built an empire! I don’t exercise! I should be on a diet! I should be flawless! Sleep less and work more! I haven’t achieved all my goals for the year! I am not financially independent yet!

And on and on…

All these thoughts and self-limiting beliefs are a perfect definition of what Joyce Meyer calls. ’Thebattlefield of the mind’’. Flooding ourselves with self-doubt and self-hate and feelings of regret for doing or not doing certain things. We spend a lot of time and energy beating ourselves up about these things.
The irony of it all. Majority of these things are actually beyond our spectrum of control or things that others or the society have made us believed to be ‘’perfect’’.

What a horrible life stopping mindset we allow ourselves to live…AUFF!! As my Turkish people would say.

For starters before making any forward movement, we must begin from a loving, secure, strong footing of self-worth. Having the belief that we are undeserving of the good things that happen to us, definitely states that it will actually never happen! As I mentioned in the previous blog, selflove is the ability to believe we are deserving, which brings me to the declare that ‘’I am enough’’

Affirm this to yourself out loud. I AM ENOUGH

How does that feel like? Do you feel it? Are you doubting it and thinking of ways of how that can’t be true for you?
I also struggle with saying it sometimes…consumed with self- limiting beliefs.

But hey!

No one is perfect! Depending on others and the society to measure our worth, is we taking in their imperfection and placing it on ourselves. I love people and enjoy people’s company but I do not want to place myself worth in them. I choose to live on what God tells me: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” psalm 139:14.

Therefore, I am enough! You are enough! We are enough. Life is too short to live for others, start living for yourself! Unconditionally loving yourself is necessary and absolutely not selfish. Thrive to have a kind and loving relationship with yourself, open your heart to the amazing feeling of self-love. It is about time you nurture and nourish the self-connection and see how magically your life will blossom by simply loving yourself, for you are ENOUGH!

“You alone are enough; you have nothing to prove to anybody.” – Dr. Maya Angelou

SELFLOVE IS NOT SELFISH

Yes, I’ve always struggled with self-love. I constantly compare myself to others and feel like I'm not good enough. This feeling can be and is taxing.
You may wonder why then am I telling you this – or why the phrase “self-love is not selfish”

As a person I have so many insecurities and being a female amplifies my insecurities. The pressure of self and also society can be and is sometimes overwhelming. So how do I love myself without being judged by those around me as self-centered or selfish? I have been trying to answer these questions since I learned about this word….

Self-love

Ever since I heard about this word or is it a phrase? – I will leave it for you to decide, I have been on a journey to actually know about it and implement it upon myself. Just as the word states, it is about loving one’s self and how one loves themselves. Is it the same way you love others or to a much lesser or more extent?

Let me tell you something about myself.

For years, I have been asking myself, or rather beating myself up with these questions…How do I actually love myself? How are those whom I admire able to feel so good about themselves?

Why can’t I be like them…? flawless and perfect. How do I be myself without feeling the need of being approved by others around me, on who I should be or how I should be? These questions led to feelings of being not good enough and extremely taunting self-limiting thoughts and beliefs about myself. Additionally, feelings of self-pity and more need to be affirmed by others around me.

Thanks to the COVID-19 outbreak period…

For it was during this time that I came across the phrase ‘’self-love’’. During this time like others globally, I had plenty of time to myself, alone and isolated from the outside world. To make use of my time I turned to reading on self-development and self-growth. And voila! The journey of self-love and self-discovery, the search for who I am and what I can actually be if I embrace myself for who I am without focusing on my flaws or comparing myself to others began.

Three years later, I am still struggling with myself most of the time and seeking others' approval, especially those close to me. I am still not confident in my abilities and capacities to be the best version of myself. Every day is a struggle with a ‘’million and one ‘’ fallouts.

However, despite still having these struggles I am still hopeful towards achieving 100% self-love. The journey has been amazing, every day I get to learn something about myself, my likes, my dislikes, and my capacities.
So, what have I learned about self-love on my love journey so far over the years?

Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological, and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. Self-love means not settling for less than you deserve.

Finally, to practice self-love, I have learned to be kind, patient, gentle, and compassionate to myself, the way I would with someone else that I care about. Throughout life, we juggle multiple relationships, often with family, friends, co-workers, and romantic partners. One relationship we may neglect, however, is the one with ourselves.

Self-love can be defined as an appreciation of one’s own worth or virtue. That includes accepting yourself as you are, prioritizing your needs, setting healthy boundaries, and forgiving yourself when needed.

Treating yourself with kindness and respect means taking time to take care of your overall well-being.

Honoring yourself is the first step in a lifelong journey to nurturing personal growth and learning to manage adversity. Self-love can be a challenge, but by prioritizing the practice, you’ll start seeing results—including a number of health benefits!

I am not yet there, but every day am getting closer….
